Touch Newsletter #235
Welcome to the Touch Newsletter #235. Boris. Doris. Fakery florist. Quite a speech. Did you think you were on the Antiques Roadshow version of Top of the Pops? Was the make-up department properly Covid-19 tested before entering the building? Do your lips move in sync with your brain while you are sleeping in your long night?
Following this performance (it was a performance, no, in so far as any pre-recorded stitch-up can be?) come the responses, such as this, attributed to @GeorgiaCox_ on Twitter (though she admits it wasn’t hers).
It voices the binary disease of our political/digital systems…
“Go out. But stay in. Go to work. But don’t. Play sport. But don’t. Go to school. But don’t. Sunbathe. But don’t. All of this is conditional. Or not. Stay safe. Stay home. But don’t stay home. Go out. But don’t. Stay alert. Stay alert on public transport. But only in Phase 3”.
Haggard Hawks writes:
“Derived from a Latin word for a child’s rattle, a CREPUNDIAN is someone who blathers empty words”. Alexander, you should have learnt that at Eton, but obviously you were too busy in your metaphorical bike shed.
Touch: Isolation enters its next phase. Carl Michael von Hausswolff pays tribute to the resonant tones of Gamelan artist Dewa Alit, and Philip Jeck demonstrates the campanology at the heart of his sound world.
The project intensifies, as the response to the situation gets worse. Protest. How? By doing what? Is this the first time that difference is achieved by doing nothing, and staying at home… Our perception and mental health is under attack and it is as important to exercise the brain, the heart and the mind as it is to play football in the park. And use your masks, as you remove your blinkers…
We upload new pieces twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays… Still to come are works by Fennesz, Claire M Singer, Sohrab, Heitor Alvelos and Rosy Parlane, amongst other gems. There is still time to support independent music and its fragile support systems. Click here to subscribe.
