CSound & Violin is the sister piece to CSound & Saz, both realised with the sadly deprecated software of a gui programmed by Richard Boulanger and his team for interactive engagement with the historic, computer programming language, Csound.

The crucial element common to both works is that the source of every single sound heard is derived solely from the instrument named—first sampled, then distorted, fragmented, and stretched. CSound & Violin was commissioned by the virtuoso violinist Richard Moore (no relation) as a collaborative project to stage live performances in which he improvises to the accompaniment of the real-time manipulation of his sampled violin. With each performance, for both Richard and myself, the composition evolves, and whilst never identical, repeated themes emerge.

This version of CSound & Violin is a live recording taken from the stage of the Stadtgarten in Cologne 2023, organised with the generous support of reiheM. I am grateful to Touch for bringing the two works under one roof.
